Gould chartered a helicopter — twice — to capture the landscape in both fall and winter before settling on the composition. Then he traveled to Albany to photograph captive eagles, ensuring every detail was right. In 2023, Marvel Studios discovered the painting and featured it on screen in Captain America: Brave New World.

Syracuse University holds 12 linear feet of Gould's personal papers — original artwork, General Electric illustrations, and more than 3,000 tear sheets from publications including pulp magazines of the 1920s through the 1940s.
